How to change your life in as little as 2 minutes in each of these 5 categories

Why the First Two Minutes are the most…

Story time! …Going somewhere? Well, when you are getting ready to get on the highway, the first two minutes of leading up to being on the highway are the most important… Why? Well first of all, it is the part that determines which way you are going to be heading. Often times you choose if you are going to be getting closer to your destination or farther away, by which on ramp you choose… and often times they are just a few football fields lengths or a couple of blocks a part from each other, yet they are going in opposite directions. And after you get on the highway, often times you can’t get off for a few miles (at least) till the next exit ramp and sometimes it might be 10-20 miles or more before you get to the next exit ramp to get off. So if you get going in the wrong direction it can double the time it takes you to change directions.

So How does this apply to our life (besides driving on the highway)?

It is the first two minutes of our choices that determine our results, whether if it’s to exercise, build a better relationship, or a stronger business that matters the most. This is why I recommend people use what I call the “S.I.P.E.S Method” to add traction to your life or business.

Background, Did you know that winter tires on a car sometimes have extra “slits” in the “tread blocks” and they are called “Sipes”. The "Sipe”, or “kerf” as it is also called, helps you have more traction on wet, snowy, or icy surfaces according to some tire companies.

Everyone seems to want more traction in their life so we improved on a tool that we have seen other places. With the S.I.P.E.S. Method, you can start 5 areas of your life (or business) in a great direction in just TWO minutes.

But here is the basic plan…

Each of the letters in S.I.P.E.S. stands for a different category of life.
S - Spiritual
I - Intellectual
P - Physical
E - Emotional
S - Social

In short, you plan to do something in EACH of these 5 categories Each day for at least 2 minutes (for a total of at least 10 minutes per day). You can spend 10 minutes a day and the 10 minutes doesn’t have to be all at the same time either.

So for example, in the Physical category, you could choose to set your phone timer for 1 minute, then go walking away from where you are currently (i.e. home) and walk till the alarm goes off and then turn around and go back. Hence you went walking for 2 minutes. (If you choose to go for longer that’s cool too, but to get the “Check Mark” you have to go for at least TWO minutes.) You do this type of thing for each of the 5 categories on the list.

If you want to “double team” things you might be able to combine two things together… for example, you could go walking for the two minutes while you are Clearing out and filling in some emotional stuff inside of you.

In this case, I would set the phone timer and then as I walked out I would use the “I feel ___ [negative emotions like angry] because…” sentence and “dump the junk” and then on the way back I would use the “I feel _____ [positive emotions like Grateful] because…” and fill myself up with good emotions and feelings. You might find yourself wanting to or needing to go for 10-15 minutes out and 10-15 minutes back to get through the “Stuff” that you want to, but 2 minutes is the minimum to get the “check box” checked.

Remember, You are not your thoughts, feelings or emotions but they affect what you do or don’t do in life, which will then affect the results you get. Improve your thoughts, feelings, and emotions and you will improve your life. Removing more of the bad and replacing it with more of the good, the overall quality of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions will improve, and so will the quality of your results.

The Little Secret -

So with life, business, and coaching, (or with the S.I.P.E.S. Method)... the Principles still applies… If you want to do something big… you got to clean up your messes along the way, keep moving forward, don’t be afraid to clean up the trash. Your life will be better and you will feel lighter and smarter just because you have taken some of the trash out of you.

Now that might look differently for different situations. But the concept is the same. It could be done with a lot of different methods like, going out into a empty field and talking it out, or talking to an old tree, or writing it down and destroying the paper… but get it out of you.

 Today’s Action Step(s)  
1) Do something that will help you remember to do these 5 simple actions each day and then do them for at least 2 minutes per day (or longer if you want). It’s about getting the check marks everyday in each of the 5 categories, not the intensity/duration of the actions.

 Extra Credit  💯 😄 Use the Set a simple goal and work towards achieving it within the week (5-7 days). Write about the emotions that come up for you while stretching for your goal.
