5 Lessons I learned from writing a book in under a month while still working at two businesses…

Story time! … Well I got this Crazy Idea for Writing a book called: “Bootstrapping a Coaching Business: 12 Costly Mistakes to Avoid on Your Way to Success” in under a month…
I was shooting for around 2 weeks but due to lack of listening fully and clearly understanding things, it took me a bit longer to accomplish.. but it was still under a month. It should be approved and available for purchase by Fri of this week.


So what are the lessons I learned from the experience?

First, It is best to Listen to ONE Coach at a time (literally don’t be listening to two people at the same time (like I did, lol) for best results). Messages get mixed and crossed in your head.. You then end up wasting more time than if you would have listened to one and then the other afterwards.

Secondly, If the Coach is showing you the best way to do something from their experience… Then you might want to try it their way first… then adjust as you find better ways but try it their way first. When they say Hire someone for $10-$20 to make your cover and $10-$20 to format your book… then do it. It is NOT worth spending several days trying to design it and make it look professional or remembering to get it into the right format so it can be uploaded to the ebook site.

Thirdly, Listen to the questions being asked not what you think they are trying to ask or accomplish with the questions. This one not only cost me a lot of Extra time Editing when things came together and they were a mess.

Fourth lesson, Get to know your avatar and niche way before you ever start this process. If not, it might change along the way and then you will have to rewrite the first parts as your Who and What will have adjusted towards the end of the book and it will be different from the front of the book… and to make it consistent you will need to adjust one or the other.

Fifth lesson learned, was to do all the “other pages stuff” BEFORE you start writing the chapters and editing it. This includes Making the Cover, title page, copyright page, dedication page, (table of contents you can just make a place holder for that), intro, Author Bio, conclusions, back of book offer, resource link(s), FAQ, Glossary of Terms, etc.

Remember, know your plan of how this book is going to fit into your business and marketing plan because you might not sell millions of copies.

The Little Secret -

So with life, business, and coaching, (or with writing a book)... the Principles still applies… If you want to do something big or small, set yourself up for success by doing the things in the right order even when it might seem backwards to everyone else. And get a coach to help collapse or reduce the time line and avoid mistakes along the way!

 Today’s Action Step(s)  
Choose a Coach to help you reduce the learning curve and timeline of what you are wanting to learn or do better. It could be in many different forms like written, recorded, or live (1on1 or group classes/programs).

And if you want to write a book:
1) Do something that will help you write that book you always wanted to write by starting with the getting the avatar clear and who this book (or newsletter/blog) is going to be for.

 Extra Credit  💯 😄 
2) Then Start with the title and sub title of the book. Get the cover designed professionally for cheap ($10-$20 on Fiverr or something like it) A Flat 2D cover is great at first.

3) Then Start Writing all the “other pages” including the list of Chapter Titles…

4)THEN work on the chapter contents and edit.
